How was your weekend, friends? It seems like Spring finally decided to come out over the weekend and I’m feeling extra joyful because of it.

On Saturday, Tony and I went consignment and resale store shopping. I spotted a mid century modern bookshelf for $60 and knew immediately I had to have it for my office! I’m trying to best to get organized, so having a bookshelf for photography props and books is a must. I opted to paint the bookshelf white and it turned out absolutely stunning. I’m very, very excited to show you my office makeover (hopefully soon!).

It always feels exceptional to wake up and notice banana bread sitting on the counter waiting to be devoured. You know it’s going to be even better than it was the first day, if that’s even possible. Yet you tell yourself you’ll have it later, perhaps for an afternoon treat.

Shortly after you open the pantry and peer into the fridge, you realize you’re absolutely having that banana bread for breakfast. There’s no stopping you. You’re craving it NOW.

That was my situation last week and it ended with me enjoying two thick slices with peanut butter on top. Plus a few fresh strawberries, chia seeds and huge chunks of dark chocolate. Because antioxidants, right?

Remember the ever-popular Sprinkles cupcake era of 2010; when Cupcake Wars was the best show on TV and gourmet cupcake shops were popping up at every corner? Cupcakes were adored by the little ones for birthday parties but also by the Grandmothers who loved pairing them with a cup of coffee for breakfast.

During that time period I learned that ordinary cupcake flavors almost always disappointed me. When I went to local cupcake shops, I stuck to the classica: chocolate with chocolate frosting and sprinkles, strawberry, red velvet, vanilla birthday cake, etc. They were never magical enough for me to want to return for another.

I’ve been wanting to make beet burgers ever since my Mom introduced me to them a few years back. Whole Foods used to make this fantastic version full of crunchy walnuts, beets and so much flavor; often times we’d scarf them down after our workouts.

Sadly, I can’t seem to find the same tasty beet burgers at any Chicago area Whole Foods.

My mom filled my Easter basket to the brim with treats until I was in high school. Suddenly when I was 16, she decided that I no longer qualified to receive Easter goodies from this so called bunny. At first I thought she was kidding! This was a tradition, wasn’t it?

I suppose I figured that for the rest of my life, Mom would be there to drop off an Easter basket filled with my favorite jelly beans and chocolate eggs that no one ever eats (unless they’re Reese’s eggs of course).

If you lived with me, you’d know that I almost always have to end each meal (or the night) with a little something sweet. I have a feeling that we’re very similar in our fondness for better-for-you treats, am I right?!

All I know is that I can’t feel confident and slam down an extra large blizzard or cherry dipped cone all the time.

I’m also sensing that I might be craving DQ here. Haven’t had a Dilly in wayyyy too long.

Now that March is officially here, I’m hoping we can expect warmer weather. Not that our winter has been anything but mild, but I still prefer spring weather. There’s nothing I’m craving more than waking up a little late on a Saturday morning, grabbing brunch at a new restaurant in the city, then strolling around with Tony for the rest of the day. Mostly we head to antique shops or bookstores, or sometimes end up grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s. Either way, I always have a good time moving, eating and enjoying ‘us’ time.

Here’s the thing though, and I hate to be the one to break it to you, but we’re bound to have some sort of chilly weather this month at some point. You know, it’s a very predictable Midwest thing; nice one day and snowing the next. When that moment comes, you’ll have this wonderful chili to make.

Hello from beautiful Scottsdale, AZ! Can I just say how good it feels to be in warm weather without a scarf, coat or mittens? I’ve been craving warm sunshine on my skin since early October.

Don’t worry though, I’m sure the rest of the country will catch up soon. March is nearly here, which for me means patio season, rooftop bars, farmer’s markets, biking along Lake Michigan, running outside, berries and ALL THE SMOOTHIES…

A few months ago, Tony and I had the chance to visit Pensacola, Florida where we had the absolute BEST truffle fries on the planet. The heavenly hot fries were full of garlic and truffle flavor, melted in your mouth and had this beautiful crusty golden exterior that I just couldn’t get over.

I finally reached my French fry heaven. One of my weaknesses in life. Yours too?

Good, because I’ve got the absolute BEST baked french fries on the planet for you to devour…
