Skinny Jalapeño Watermelon Margaritas that are naturally sweetened with watermelon juice and a touch of agave. So easy to make and perfect sweet and spicy. The ultimate summer margarita! Options to make a small batch or a pitcher to share.

Happy almost Cinco de Mayo, friends!

I’ve been laying on the beach in Cabo reading books I’ve collected from Amazon over the past few months. It’s a terrible habit — you know, buying books, reading a few chapters then getting caught up in all my to-do lists.

But here’s something I recently learned about myself: I must take the time to read and listen to other human beings life perspectives on a consistent basis. I know this seems silly and maybe a little obvious, but the insight another person’s life experiences bring me keeps me grounded and thoughtful in my day to day adventures. It keeps me in tune to my emotions, to others and the ability to see outside of my every day box of life.

So, finishing all those books is now at the top of my to-do list.

Welcome to this week’s Wellness Wednesday. Today is a special one because not only am I sharing my personal story about digestion issues, but also a tummy soothing smoothie recipe and why I’m loving probiotics these days — and why you should too!

Let’s rewind back to 2011 to when my digestion was a complete disaster. I believe that stress, an eating disorder and lack of proper nutrition in my diet all played a big factor in destroying the good bacteria in my stomach. This led to stomach aches, major bloating, constipation (I said it), joint pain and the inability to fight off infections in my body.

How’s your fridge looking these days? Overflowing with bright berries & fresh seasonal produce? Mine is packed to the brim.I mean seriously guys, when you have an obsession with buying all the fruit on sale from Peapod, finding room in the fridge becomes a real problem. Flavors just seem to dance around in my head all day and the next thing I know, I’ve got more than just a few grocery bags to unload.

So what’s a girl to do? Well, sometimes it’s just necessary to throw everything in a blender and enjoy a refreshing smoothie. Often, the random ingredients create the most delicious flavors. Case in point: this watermelon smoothie packed with cherries, berries & creamy almond milk.

Hello from beautiful Scottsdale, AZ! Can I just say how good it feels to be in warm weather without a scarf, coat or mittens? I’ve been craving warm sunshine on my skin since early October.

Don’t worry though, I’m sure the rest of the country will catch up soon. March is nearly here, which for me means patio season, rooftop bars, farmer’s markets, biking along Lake Michigan, running outside, berries and ALL THE SMOOTHIES…

The beginning of January hit a few weeks ago and this smoothie was in full rotation as my breakfast of choice. To be honest, I enjoy smoothies at all times of the day during each season. Not only are smoothies delicious, but they give you the ability to pack a lot of nutrition into one glass. And that’s something I love!

This Summer has been remarkable.

To tell you the truth, I thought I’d have more down time to relax but then I realize that life is short and all I want to do is see the world like any twenty-something. I spent a lot of time traveling without any regrets. The discovery of new places always excites me and I couldn’t feel any more blessed to celebrate the end of Summer with a happy heart.

In other exciting end of Summer news, Tony should be getting home from baseball next week, so we’ll be spending time together eating everything that Chicago has to offer. Date nights (and BDUBS) here we come!

How are you on your smoothie game? Lately there’s been a fruit overload happening in my fridge. They literally just keep climbing into my grocery basket; I’ve had no other choice than to make a smoothie nearly every day.

No regrets, of course. Although I do admit that I need so many more healthy smoothie recipes on AK. I’ll get to that right away.

I figured since I’ve been loving smoothies so much, you might enjoy them too. It’s a great way to use up farmer’s market fruit, plus they’re a healthy breakfast or snack option to provide you with energy and important nutrients.

This past weekend Sarah of Broma Bakery came to stay with me in Chicago and we treated ourselves to something sweet every single day. It was a bit unusual to me but life is all about balance, well-being and feasting on happy moments; sometimes these special occasions call for frozen yogurt, doughnuts AND chocolate chip pancakes. Ha!

We had the absolute best time together and I can’t wait to share more photos of our baking plus our Chicago adventures! In the meantime, I’m getting back to eating all the veggies and indulging in healthier treats (rather than doughnuts).

I hope your weekend was TOPS!

I spent the weekend in solitude. And honestly, it was so refreshing. I cleaned out my closet, worked out, bought new running shoes, worked on blogging techy stuff, and made a few recipes. I also watched an episode of The Leftovers, a new show on HBO. I’m kinda put off by it, but also a little intrigued. Have you seen it?

In other news, I’m a little annoyed with myself for not sharing this strawberry protein shake recipe sooner, but here it is now! I promise that you are going to love it.

A delicious smoothie made with wild blueberries, banana, almond milk and spinach for a nutritional boost. Finished with a sprinkle of chia seeds for a healthy dose of omega-3.

A blueberry power smoothie packed with wild blueberries, strawberries, banana, almond milk, spinach and chia seeds. The perfect pick me up or breakfast! Hello. Let me proceed to tell you about how weird I am.

Last night I had this out of control craving for broccoli after my workout. Just steamed broccoli with sea salt and pepper. Quite ridiculous really, but I absolutely had to have it. So off to Target I went. Except you know when you walk into Target, it’s not like you’re walking right out. Nope, you’re going to be there for at least an hour filling your cart with things you never knew you needed. Classic example: Vanilla Cupcake Goldfish. They basically taste like sweetened little animal cracker cookies. And if you’ve been here a while, you know how I LOVE animal crackers (especially frosted). Oh and also, coconut milk conditioner. YUM.

I finally managed to leave Target with two bags full. By the time I got home I WAS STARVING. Do you ever get to the point where you’re so hungry that you can’t even think? I thought about breaking open a jar of peanut butter in my car on the ride home, but knew that wouldn’t lead to anything good.

Once home, I basically destroyed an entire bag of steamed broccoli for dinner. Obviously that filled me up, but only for one episode of The Vampire Diaries, so of course I had to make something else. Since I’ve been really trying to clean up my diet (minus the goldfish), I opted for one of my favorite power smoothies.

Wild Blueberry Banana Spinach Power Smoothie

Lately I’ve been really into blueberries in just about anything. WILD blueberries to be exact. I like the name and I like the flavor. In fact I kinda feel like Tarzan after eating them.

Really though, they’re SO much better then the conventional ones. I usually purchase mine from Trader Joe’s, but if you can’t find them there, opt for organic blueberries. I promise you’ll notice the flavor difference.
