Happy Friday! What’s on the weekend agenda? Sarah and I are headed to Scottsdale, AZ to celebrate one year of our friendship (because we’re nerds), but also to work on an upcoming travel guide for all of you!
We’re beyond excited to soak up that sunshine and vitamin D. If you have any recommendations of places we absolutely have to see, please let me know!
Tony and I arrived back in Chicago on Monday after a quick trip to Vegas to see the Mariah Carey concert (bucket list item for me!). I want to sit here and TELL YOU EVERYTHING, like how she was the most amazing singer live, or how I saw dem babies (her kids nicknames), but I plan on sharing all the deets in another post soon.
To say that I’ve been going a little crazy over the past few days might be an understatement. I worked on 16 recipes and ran my dishwasher over 20 times. Dishwasher = critical part of keeping me sane so if it breaks I’m absolutely screwed. Thankfully Tony has been more than wonderful at helping me unload it.
Welcome to the weekend, lovelies. This week FLEW by! I spent the week testing recipes because we’re shooting all of our February (and some of March) next week. By the way, we’re still peeling through the results of the annual AK reader survey and determining what kind of recipes you’d like to see more of in 2016! Thank you so much for filling that out! It’s incredibly helpful. I want to make sure that I’m providing you with a variety of recipes which encourage you to enjoy and prepare nutritious, healthy meals (and treats).
What else? I’ve been having a blast making breakfast this week with some of my old favorites. Oatmeal bakes, smoothie bowls, etc. Now that I wake up at 5:15am, when 7am rolls around I’m usually starving. Below you’ll see one of my favorite, easy breakfasts: Cottage Cheese Oatmeal Banana Pancakes covered in bananas and almond butter.
I’m all out of sorts when it comes to what day it is. A week long work trip will do that to you. My email inbox is out of control and there’s nothing in the fridge except energy balls and blueberry muffins.
My schedule is completely off because Tony now wakes up at 5am, which means I tend to get up at that time too. If you know me well, you know I’m traditionally a night owl. It’s been an adjustment, but I’ve also found myself enjoying the dark, quiet hours of Chicago mornings.
This weekend, I don’t have any plans except for catching up on work and relaxing. I also have a few delicious recipes coming to you on Sunday and Monday, so I hope you’ll stop by and check them out!
Hello hello! We made it to Friday. Let’s start the day with a good breakfast and end it with an even better dessert.
This week was tiring. I tested several recipes and they MAJORLY FAILED. This happens sometimes. The annoying part is that I have to remake them until they’re worthy of being on the blog. The upside is that Tony continues to eat everything and anything. Bless him. He also bought me flowers and made a delicious gnocchi with a red wine spicy meat sauce last night. He’s just the best.
It feels so weird to write out 2016, don’t you think? Not to mention that I still can’t get over the fact that I am now four years from turning thirty yet I continue to blast Justin Bieber like a teenager. Oh well. *plays The Feeling on repeat*
In other more exciting news, I’ve been making recipe videos. Most recently I created one for my Double Chocolate Paleo Banana Bread and think it’s pretty cute. You can find the full video over on my Facebook page (would love if you liked my page!). I’m going to buy a tripod this weekend, so they’ll be a much less shaky. If you have any favorite AK recipes you’d like me to create videos for, let me know in the comments below! Love hearing from you.
How was your first week of 2016? Mine is off to a rocky start. I have to admit to you guys that I’m feeling very a little indecisive in various areas of my life, especially with my career and blogging. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE making recipes for you but my heart is leading me somewhere else besides just blogging. I want to inspire. I want to learn more. I want to teach you how to be healthy! Whatever the case, I’ve got some big decisions to make soon and thankfully I have Netflix to distract me until then.
Lately, we’ve been really into Making a Murderer (obviously?) and also The Vikings on the History Channel. If you haven’t watched either, then you absolutely must check them out.
My goodness, I’m so excited for 2016. Seems typical to say, but for me it’s so true. I’ve got big plans for the blog and myself. There’s nothing better than spending time on reflecting over the past year — the good, the bad and the things I should be doing more (or less) of.
Big things happened over the past year: I traveled more than I ever thought I would, Tony and I decided to move in together, I made the most recipes in any consecutive year, I hired an assistant, photographer and graphic designer.
Today I wanted to spend some time looking at my most popular recipes that were published in 2015. I dive into the most view recipes every year and it’s always interesting to see which ones you loved the most.
Happy weekend, friends! I’m back in Chicago after a lovely ski trip in Utah.
I probably hadn’t been on the slopes since I was 14, so not only was it an adventure but a little bit of a mental mind game. At one point, I accidentally skied down a blue run and thought I was going to DIE. Completely terrifying, but I did it and am pretty proud.
Anyway, what’s new with you? Do you have any Christmas parties to attend this weekend? I do! Tony has a family Christmas party every year, so on Saturday we’ll be attending that and then on Sunday we’re having one at our place. I’m supposed to bring cookies to the party tomorrow and am thinking quite a few versions. I’m sure you’ll see them all on Instagram later today!
In other news, my birthday is on Tuesday and I’m a little excited, but not really. I’m turning 27. WAIT WHAT. How did we get there? I swear I was just 24. I don’t know what’s happening to time. Also, nevermind the fact that saying that makes me sound 80.
