This past weekend Sarah of Broma Bakery came to stay with me in Chicago and we treated ourselves to something sweet every single day. It was a bit unusual to me but life is all about balance, well-being and feasting on happy moments; sometimes these special occasions call for frozen yogurt, doughnuts AND chocolate chip pancakes. Ha!

We had the absolute best time together and I can’t wait to share more photos of our baking plus our Chicago adventures! In the meantime, I’m getting back to eating all the veggies and indulging in healthier treats (rather than doughnuts).

I freaking love chili. How about you? To me, it’s just always so comforting, warm, filling and hearty. YUMMMMMM.

Lately I’ve been on a real chili making binge. Can’t stop, won’t stop. I cooked up two batches last week and froze one for evenings when I don’t feel like cooking or simply don’t have the time. Sometimes I work out in the evenings and by the time I get back home my desire to start chopping vegetables and doing dishes is negative 1 million.

Do you have a holiday morning tradition? This year I’m celebrating with Tony and his family; we’ll each be bringing a brunch dish on Christmas morning. I haven’t decided what I’ll be making yet: french toast, pancakes, mini cinnamon rolls or banana bread. I’m definitely leaning towards the homemade mini cinnamon rolls; what do you guys think?

Quinoa enchilada bake is a delicious appetizer or dinner! Best of all it’s made with an easy homemade enchilada sauce!

How was your weekend? Did you do any holiday baking? I flew back into Chicago on Saturday night then enjoyed a relaxing evening with Tony. We tried to find something to watch on Netflix since we recently finished Breaking Bad, but nothing seemed convincing enough. That and we can’t seem to make a decision ever. What are some of your favorite TV series on Netflix? I thought The Fringe looked really good, mostly because Pacey is in it.

In other news, my birthday is next week (on the 22nd!) and I’ll be turning 26. I don’t know what I want for my birthday treat, usually it’s pumpkin pie but this year I’m kind of feeling a BIG fat doughnut or chocolate mousse. Is it sad that dessert is the most important thing to me on my birthday?

Hi. How was your weekend? I have to admit that I was so incredibly lazy. I literally watched Vampire Diaries on Netflix for over four hours yesterday. Oh and did I mention that my apartment isn’t really unpacked yet from the move? Tony and I attempted to put some things away but apparently I have wayyy too many kitchen appliances and hardly enough cabinet space. I think I need to get a prop table and maybe a cabinet for extra storage. I love when I actually have a reason to visit HomeGoods!

Yeahhhh…. so basically total procrastination over here.

Do you guys have any city crushes? You know cities that you totally fall in love with from the moment you arrive. I have a few on my list including San Diego, Chicago and now… Kansas City!

I attended a conference in KC over the weekend and quickly developed a crush on the quaint little city that’s bursting with vegan bakeries, scrumptious food and beautiful parks. The fall foliage and sunny 70 degree weather made it even more loveable. I will do a recap soon of all of my bakery and restaurant visits along with more info on the conference fun.

Tony is here (Minnesota) visiting me before we head out to Chicago for a few weeks. He is going to help me look for apartments so that I can potentially make a move to the windy city! I’m beyond excited, but I really need to find a great spot with a nice kitchen, so fingers crossed.

Since I know that I’ll be gone from my kitchen for a few weeks, I need to get caught up on recipe development. That means that piles of cookies, ALL THE THINGS pumpkin and of course, lots of muffins.

Over the past three months, I’ve been on a real fruit obsession. Fruit smoothies, shakes, muffins and jams galore! If you remember, I even put blueberries in a cookie (OMG so good!).

One fruit I’m absolutely in love with are the organic braeburn apples from Trader Joe’s. They’re one of my favorite healthy snacks especially when dipped in peanut butter or vanilla greek yogurt. I feel so lucky when I find them because they have the sweetest flavor and best crunchy texture. Lord knows I’m already excited for apple season so I can bake up my famous apple crisp and warm up some hearts.
