How my partnership with Volition Beauty came to be

As a recipe developer and mama, I’ve always been attuned to how much ingredients can impact our health and skin, which was a huge inspiration behind this mask. When I first became pregnant with my first baby, Sidney, I switched over most of my products to brands with cleaner ingredients, as there are a lot of skincare ingredients that shouldn’t be used while pregnant. One of the clean beauty brands that I switched to was Volition Beauty and after that a beautiful friendship was born. We partnered a few times and I started to include them in my pregnancy skincare routine and in my shop page various times because they are truly such a staple in my skincare routine.

Your input mattered to me

I also polled YOU over on Instagram to ask what was important to you in a face mask, and the most common answers were:

• Hydration: this was probably the #1 request from the AK audience, along with similar comments like non-irritating, burning or drying.
• Redness reduction: you wanted a mask that was safe for sensitive skin and great for all skin types.
• Anti-aging: it was important to help reduce wrinkles and restore some skin plumpness.
• “Feels like a spa”: I had many requests for a mask that smelled great and felt like a luxurious spa treatment!

I started dreaming about a mask that would help your skin simply glow by smoothing and infusing it with rich, nourishing, hydrating vitamins to provide even skin tone and texture. It was also important to me that the mask was vegan, smelled incredible, was safe for all skin types and helped to really HYDRATE and NOURISH.

When Volition and I first started dreaming up ingredients that could work well together, of course, antioxidant-rich chocolate came to mind because I bake with chocolate all the time and love the secret benefits it provides (that most people don’t realize!). Pair that chocolate (cocoa extract!) with the delicious creamy hydrating oil of macadamia nuts and you’ve got yourself a Chocolate Macadamia Hydrating Mask that smells like a luxurious chocolate pudding — sorry, no eating this one though!

Introducing the Chocolate Macadamia Hydrating Mask

Based on tons of your feedback and months of formulation with Volition, my first skincare product is an incredible, super nourishing Chocolate Macadamia Hydrating Mask that I’m seriously obsessed with. My girlfriends with different skin types have all tested it out and love it just as much as I do. Just like all of the skincare products I use, I wanted to ensure that this hydrating mask was filled with ingredients that I could feel good about putting on my face and body — meaning it’s great for all skin types AND is pregnancy safe!

Did I mention it smells AMAZING? Talk about a decadent combo of ingredients. Speaking of, the core ingredients in this mask are:

• Cocoa extract: the “chocolate” part of this amazing mask comes from cocoa extract, which is full of antioxidants to help protect your skin from free radical damage. Free radicals are essentially unstable atoms that can damage cells and speed up the aging process, so the antioxidants in this mask protect your cells from this damage.
• Macadamia oil: hello, hydration! Macadamia oil is incredibly nourishing for dry skin and strengthens your skin’s natural barrier function. The mask will leave your skin feeling luxuriously smooth and hydrated thanks to this oil.
• Hyaluronic acid: I know the word “acid” can sound harsh, but hyaluronic acid actually works to replenish your skin and improve its moisture retention. It also helps to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, creating a smoothing effect.
• Vegan collagen: collagen has become quite the buzzy word and ingredient over the past years, and we added a vegan version to this mask that acts to plump and firm up the skin on your face.
