Can I make this in a sheet cake or two round pans instead of a Bundt cake?

    • replied:

      Yes, that should work!

The cake turned out tasty, but pieces broke off in my pan even though I followed the directions 🙁

The biggest issue was the glaze! I didn’t even add the powdered sugar and it was way too thick. I tried adding more milk, but it was still way too thick. I would probably leave it out if I made this again.

I love in Tx-made this cake at home and it was AMAZING! However tried to make it recently while visiting family in Utah, and it was a disaster. There is a 4500 difference in altitude, any suggestions on how to adjust this recipe for the higher altitude?

    Hey Monique,
I find myself always checking your blog first for recipes and I am looking to make a 9-inch birthday cake for my upcoming birthday. Do you have any idea if this recipe could be sized down to fit that pan size? If so, any idea what it would be? It is unfortunately all I have at the moment. Much love to you and your team.

Hi, and happy almost bday!! I think it should work to halve it and use a 9″ pan, but I haven’t made this recipe in a while so I’m not exactly sure about the baking time. I also have this healthy birthday cake which should work well to halve and make in a 9″ pan!

What if I only have a hand mixer? Would that work fine? Thanks.

    • replied:

      Absolutely!

I haven’t tried this recipe yet but I’m excited to this weekend for my husband’s birthday! Can I sub a different flour for the cake flour? Thanks!!

    • replied:

I haven’t tried it. An option to make your own cake flour is to add 1 tablespoon cornstarch for every cup of flour 🙂

favorite yellow cake ever! perfect for layers too!

I have made this cake before with sour cream and it was delicious! Right now all I have is 0% fage greek yogurt. Do you think using a nonfat vs 2% would make a big difference?

    • replied:

Perfect! Nonfat yogurt should be fine 🙂

  • says:

Can I use this batter for cupcakes? If so, what do you suggest for the baking time and oven temperature ?

    • replied:

Absolutely! I would bake them at 350 for about 15-25 minutes – just check on them 🙂

I made this cake for my mother’s birthday. I have made many cakes in my years and this one was one of the best! Every one loved it! Such great flavor and texture! Thanks for a great recipe!

All well and good but did you really have to use such vulgarity in your statement “F THAT BOX MIX….”
No class anymore in our society! What is it with the F bomb??? Can’t you find a more creative way to make the same point ??

I found the statement to be quite comical! You do you, girl! Thanks for the recipe! I will be making it for my sons 10th birthday. We can’t wait to try it!

Yes, its disgusting how some people have no class! No home training

  • says:

Hi! I made this cake in Utah at altitude and it was way too dense. Do you have any suggestions?

  • says:

Today I used your recipe. This is my first time responding after cooking a recipe found online. Relatives are gathering day after tomorrow, and three have birthdays close together. Birthday cake cupcakes was a no brainer. I’m new to baking, so I made a few errors. Like..forgetting to “cream the sugar” with the butter, I messed up with separating the egg whites, the butter wasn’t soft enough yet, I committed the venial sin of peeking twice into the oven. I learned a few good lessons, that’s for sure. I baked them for 26 minutes. I bagged up most of those delicious baby cakes without glazing first. I gave my husband, my brother, and my dear old dad the freshest cupcakes! I couldn’t believe how yummy they were. I glazed them, then dipped the glazed cupcakes right into a mountain of rainbow jimmies.

DO NOT use skim milk for the glaze. It seized my chocolate.

  • says:

Can you make this in a regular cake pan instead of a bundt cake?

  • says:

BEAUTIFUL-this cake is like pure happiness in a bundt pan!
