We returned late Monday night from our little vacation in Arizona and I’ve been busy playing catch up. Not only am I exhausted, but I’ve been chugging kombucha like water and putting turmeric in everything I eat. Super trendy, I know.
Rather than work, my mind is begging me to lay on the couch and watch old episodes of Felicity, just so I can stare at Ben and reminisce about how simple life was back then. Sometimes adulting is hard, ya know?
But seriously, the mini vacation we took WAS AMAZING. I am planning on sharing more next week about where we hiked because it was stunning.
In other very, very exciting news — Tony and I have set a date: 11/17/17
YES, THAT’S THIS YEAR.Â
I would invite all of you if I could. We’d have a good time and eat cake and laugh about that time I told you I shoved muffin’s down people’s throats. This isn’t a joke. I actually said that in a post once. I also said that I didn’t like Taylor Swift. Oops?
Anyway, life is moving along at the speed of light and I am so happy to have Abra to help me navigate each day and keep me on track. It’s allowed me to free up some of my time to work on some pretty incredible recipes and other exciting projects (you’ll be able to buy a product from me soon!).
This weekend we’re headed to Tony’s parents to dive into wedding planning full force. WHOO HOO. The only thing I know about my wedding is that I want it to be very non-traditional. I just want it to be a reflection of our love for one another and have really freaking good food. And dessert, obviously. If you have anything cool you’ve done for desserts, let me know — I’d love to hear.
Now, let’s get onto this week’s favorites:
Have you signed up for my Chicago charity workout class yet? Proceeds go to GirlForward, here in Chi! I would love for you to come out and get in a workout with me.
This bohemian wedding is everything.
The cheapest places to fly in the US in April. Get going!
Banana milk? Hmmmm, I don’t know about that.
Veggie sloppy joes made with your favorite trendy ingredient. Seriously though, I can’t wait to make these.
Loving these statement earrings! So pretty for spring/summer.
This one pot spring veggie pasta has me doing a very happy dance. Because… goat cheese!
Train yourself to be less busy. I actually need this.
And shameless plug: Would you guys follow me on Instagram? I want to hit 100k. 🙂 THANK YOU!
Have an amazing weekend, loves! xo.

Donut cakes and walls! I wish donuts were a thing when I got married because I enjoy them so much more then cake!
Congrats on setting a date! We also got married on a date that matched the year (3/11/11!) – great minds. 🙂
Ahhhh that’s so soon!! Congratulations on setting a date! 🙂
I love that people are doing whatever they want for desserts- we did and I’ve told everyone you can do whatever you want these days! I think people are more excited than anything when it’s not traditional and there is something more than wedding cake. We did a gluten free naked cake that had three different flavors for the tiers, my husband had a huge raspberry cheesecake, and I had my heart set on a gelato bar with gluten free cookies (to make cookie sandwiches if people wanted). So glad I did it, people loved the gelato bar- it was from a local gelato maker my husband and I have always loved.
I love cake but couldn’t get on board with the price of a simple wedding cake for my wedding. Instead, we did mini pies in a bunch of winter themed flavors like caramel apple piece, bourbon pecan, etc. Our guests devoured them and we got a lot of positive feedback. And yes, we did “cut the pie” instead of a cake and did the pictures and everything.
You are getting married on my Birthday!! What a wonderful date that will bring you lots of luck!!
Congratulations on setting a date – that’s one of (if not the biggest) hurdle to jump over! You are one of my favorite bloggers and I am so excited to follow this exciting time of your life! I got engaged in January of 2016 and married this past September and people looked at me like I was crazy for having a shorter engagement! But it makes everything so much sweeter. Try not to stress out too much with wedding planning, it’ll all come together and be here before you know it! 🙂
haha thats not short at all!! I got engaged at the end of May and was married mid October of that year. My sister got engaged Jan of this year and is getting married middle of May this year. 🙂
I had a November wedding, too! 11/11/12 🙂 The only details I REALLY cared about were the food and dessert. We had catering from my favorite casual Mexican place, which went a long way towards determining the location since most places want you to use in-house catering. The dessert was cinnamon rolls and mini boysenberry pies from my favorite (now closed ðŸ˜) bakery. It was perfect, and people remember our deserts way more than any cake.
Congrats on setting a date and happy planning! I also love felicity and especially the dreamy Ben 😉
Congrats on the date setting! We’re still venue hunting and it is quite the process. As for desserts: My cousin did a s’mores bar at her wedding with a bunch of different candy bars and homemade different flavored marshmallows. it was SO GOOD and I ate like 5 😉
I had an October wedding and we had a variety of desserts. We had a small “traditional” style wedding cake (pumpkin with cream cheese frosting) that was superb!!! We also had chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, pumpkin pies, pecan pies, and blackberry cobbler. The pies and cobblers were made my mother and grandmother. For our favors, I gave away small jars of homemade (by me!) pumpkin butter. It all felt a lot more personal (plus it was wayyyy cheaper).
Congrats!
That’s sounds delicious!!! I am going to do pies too and have a small (probably homemade) cake just to please my futures MIL since I hate cake, esp wedding cake (I know I’m weird)
Ahhh so excited for you lady!!
Congrats on setting a wedding date, great date too! Love your blog and amazing recipes!
eek congratulations! that must mean you have a venue?!?
Congrats! We were lucky enough to get married on 11/11/11 after knowing each other for 41 years! Childhood sweethearts who were meant to be together!
Congrats on setting a date! My first wedding was in July and we did strawberry shortcakes that guests could make themselves instead of wedding cake. Yum!
Yay! So excited for you! At our wedding we had a huge dessert bar with cookies, brownies, bars, candy, tarts, etc. We also had a gelato bar and a small cake…just for tradition so we could cut into it, but I am not a big cake person so the focus was on all of the other desserts. Celebrate with your favorites! Thanks for the sloppy joe love:) xo
WOw good luck to you! I am getting married in July and feel like it’s just never ending choices (veil or no? Bouquet toss? First dance song? Readings at the ceremony? Bridal party gifts?) lol, feeling a little overwhelmed in case you didn’t guess and I am having what is a considered a low key wedding! Definitely suggest a wedding planner for your time frame (you spend a lot of time just emailing vendors surprisingly)
My husband and I got engaged in February of 2014 and married that July. I figured there was no point in dragging it out! I pretty much planned the whole thing myself and while it was a little stressful the day itself was absolutely perfect. Complete with tres leches cake to the face!
