I had a friend stopping in to talk, and I wanted to have something simple for dinner. I came across this recipe, and I love it. We had a great harvest of arugula from our garden, and to make this a main dish salad I added grilled chicken. I doubled the recipe for the dressing. I roasted the sweet potatoes ahead of time and grilled the chicken, and before my friend arrived, I plated the salad. We loved it!

I was searching for “winter salads” to bring to a family gathering this week. And stumbled upon this gem! I was quickly scrolling down, and began reading your post. I really got caught up in your words and I love your perspective on health, wellness, and balance. Thank you for talking honestly, and pointing out the fact that we need to focus more on loving ourselves first, and doing what makes us feel healthy for us, not what others tell us! ! Cant wait to try more of your recipes!! Thank you

Forcing yourself to do something will never make you love it, because you can’t force passion or liking a certain exercise.

Made this today and it is fantastic. I used reduced sugar dried Craisins in place of cherries.

      Perfect!!

I am so with the idea that if something doesn’t bring happiness it’s a no go. I have a saying that I use with literally everything (picking paint colors, taking on blog projects, etc)…”If it’s not a hell yes, it’s a hell no.” Clearly not an original idea, but it really sticks with me. Also, this recipe looks so good! 🙂

Simply put: If it doesn’t give you happiness, let it go. (y)

This post is so magically what I needed after this long weekend. After a day and night of beating myself up and feeling the anxiety take over, “Because self love will always be greater than having a six pack” is just so perfectly soothing to my soul. Amazing reminder xoxo

Very well said Monique!! We need to treat ourselves kinder and with more emotional respect. It’s an easier mindset as I get older for sure.

    • replied:

      Yes!! xoxo

  • says:

This deliciously balanced salad suits your wise words so well! Grateful as well to have a better perspective as I get older, I spent ENOUGH time feeling insecure and restricted about what I put in my body.

    • replied:

Right?? Such a freeing feeling to gain this perspective! Thanks for your note, Meredith!

  • says:

Love this post Monique! I definitely have to agree– the older I get the more I value so much more than what my body looks like. I wish I would have had more information surrounding self-love and body image 10 years ago! Balance definitely looks different on everyone, and everyone has to figure out what that is for themselves. Sometimes it takes having those bad feelings around food to realize you can come out on the other side stronger and more confident than ever. <3

    • replied:

Thanks Ashley! TOTALLY agree. Happy to be surrounded by more and more body positivity everyday <3
