My favorite place ever: Byron Bay, Australia — February 2014
Oh hey Friday! This weekend I still have some Christmas shopping to do but considering the fact that I have 60% done is some sort of miracle. I actually did most of it online, so thank you for existing Amazon!
What’s new: I’ve been in Minnesota this past week and I can’t tell you how quickly the time has flown by. I was able to grab dinner with one of my best friends, see the new Hunger Games movie and do a few yoga classes. I also went to the chiropractor which seemed to help me tremendously. Hopefully I’ll be back in the gym soon lifting weights and running.
Other than that I’ve been craving some sort of vacation. Anything, really! Last year I was planning a trip to Australia and this year I haven’t done much other than stare at reviews on Trip Advisor. I promised myself that I would travel internationally at least once a year so I really do need to get on top of it. My best friend and I are in talks about planning a month long trip to South America or Asia, but haven’t quite decided yet. I’m basically dying to climb Machu Picchu. Anyone done it?
Enough chatting though. Let’s get to some link love! There are so many good things this week, I just can’t even. Also, I have a survey for you with the chance to win a $100 Visa Gift Card! Scroll down the the bottom for more info.
If you’ve never made anything with pomegranates, this guacamole recipe will change your mind.
A complete visual guide to 11 different sugars. Too bad coconut sugar isn’t on the list!
LOVE these essential oils for your skin. What’s your fav?
This chocolate peanut butter pie. Um and it’s vegan? Okay!
Ever tried Barry’s Bootcamp? This treadmill workout is one of my favorites to do on my own.
I desperately want to make this pork tenderloin for Tony. Except maybe I’d use a homemade cranberry sauce instead of figs.
Here are 5 bras every girl must have. I need to upgrade my bra wardrobe.
Don’t let your muffins go flat. Here are some tips on how to make them perfectly domed.

I just filled out the survey, I love your recipes! My favorite holiday tradition involves our elaborate dinner on Christmas Eve. All of my family comes together and we have a custard for dessert made from a very old family recipe. Hidden in the custard is a blanched almond, and whoever gets it wins a prize! The trick, though, is you can’t fess up that you have the almond until the entire bowl is gone. Multiple people usually pretend they have it and it has been known to go on for a half hour after the custard is finished before the winner reveals themselves. It is a silly little tradition but one of my favorites!
I entered the giveaway. My favorite tradition is making colorful scarfs for loved ones and a few to donate. ⛄️

I did a 4 day hike to Machu Picchu in 2008, it’s the way to go, don’t do anything shorter! It’s challenging and life changing!! I have traveled a lot; I have had a passport since before I was a year old and to this day that trip was probably the best experience ever!! Give yourself time in Cusco before you do the hike so you can adjust to the altitude a bit, it’s rough at first! I can go on and on with tips and highlights from the trip if you are curious! 🙂

Hi Monique! I completed your survey. My favorite tradition is sadly one I cannot uphold anymore. When I was little, every year, for Christmas only, my mom and I would make “Narzook”. It is a slightly labor intensive pastry. My mom got the recipe from our Armenian next door neighbors, the Arzoos, who said it was a traditional Armenian food, special for Christmas and sometimes Easter. We made the batter, then had to roll the subsequent pastry out into oval oblong shapes approximately 6 inches long, maybe 4 inches wide. The pastry got topped with this amazing almond flavored paste (also made from scratch) and then topped with a second piece of pastry, crimped all the way around with the tines of a fork, brushed with egg wash, then baked. They came out golden, and gorgeous, and the most delicious pastry I’ve ever had. I looked forward to Narzook making AND eating EVERY year. My mom exited the picture when I was 15, and I have never found the recipe, nor anyone who had heard of or had Narzook since. 🙁 I miss this tradition and it’s results more than I can describe.

But this year we are doing something different: heading back home to OH so my 5 year old son can see where I grew up and I want to go to the cemetery where my dad and mom are buried and talk to them. My favorite tradition is buying a new Christmas sweater each year and wearing a different one as much as possible. I am the queen of ugly sweaters but so many have their own story. Like the one from when my 20yr old daughter was a baby and we had matching ones for our family picture. I still have BOTH!, waiting for a granddaughter one day! I only wear mine one day a year so I can keep it as long as possible! One day my daughter will hopefully find it fun to wear a matching sweater with her Mom again but not holding my breath!!! Merry Christmas Monique!

I participated in the survey… Favorite Christmas tradition as a kid was probably decorating! After Thanksgiving, we would pull all the boxes down from the attic. Going through and unpacking/putting up everything each year with my family was always a blast. Seemed like we would always find something that we had forgotten about, but retelling the stories that went along with everything was the best part.
